Man Utd Rejects Costly Loan for Jhon Duran

United look elsewhere for a No.9

Jhon Duran’s representatives sounded out Manchester United about a January loan, hoping to reignite the Colombian’s career after a stalled six-month spell at Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr. The Saudi club were willing to let the 20-year-old leave on a temporary deal, but only if United agreed to cover his eye-watering £336,000-a-week wages.

Why the approach was turned down

Old Trafford chiefs politely declined. Sources say the club believes its limited winter budget is better spent pursuing long-term targets such as Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres or Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. Paying Duran’s full salary for half a season would have cost close to £9 million without a guaranteed option to buy—an outlay the hierarchy deemed poor value.

Duran already heading for the exit

Al-Nassr shelled out £66 million to sign the former Aston Villa forward last summer, but he has struggled to adapt to the Saudi Pro League, netting only twice in all competitions. With first-team chances scarce behind Ronaldo, the club is ready to trim its wage bill and open talks with potential suitors.

Fenerbahçe and Mourinho circling

Reports in Turkey claim José Mourinho has approved initial discussions to bring Duran to Fenerbahçe, where the Portuguese coach wants more pace and power up front for a title push. Negotiations are said to be at an early stage, but Al-Nassr are open to either a loan or permanent deal.

Opinion: United made the right call

Paying Champions League money for an unproven striker in mid-season never felt sensible. Erik ten Hag needs a reliable goalscorer, yet Duran’s form and fee pose too many questions. United must stay focused on premium, long-term solutions rather than short-term gambles.
