Fifa says it is working to “maximise opportunities for Iranian supporters to attend matches” after Iran’s World Cup group-stage ticket allocation was revoked only days before the tournament begins.

The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, starts on Thursday. Iran are due to face New Zealand on 15 June and Belgium on 21 June, with both matches taking place in Los Angeles, before meeting Egypt in Seattle on 26 June.

Fifa responds to revoked ticket allocation

The governing body did not give further details on why the allocation was revoked, but said it is working to help Iranian fans attend games. The move comes at a sensitive time for supporters hoping to follow their team at the tournament.

Iran’s presence at the finals has already drawn attention because of the logistical challenges facing travelling fans, and the loss of the original ticket allocation adds another complication just before kick-off.

Iran’s World Cup schedule in the United States

Iran’s group-stage fixtures are spread across two US cities. Their opening match against New Zealand and second game against Belgium will both be played in Los Angeles, while their final group match against Egypt is scheduled for Seattle.

With the tournament set to begin on Thursday, Fifa’s priority is now to find ways to restore access for Iranian supporters and ensure they can attend matches where possible.
