A footballer who knocked out an opponent during a match has been suspended from the sport for a minimum of five years by the Football Association of Wales (FAW).

Thomas Taylor struck Daniel Brookwell with his elbow during an Ardal North West league match between Porthmadog FC and Trearddur Bay on 17 January. The FAW said Taylor is now subject to a Sine Die suspension from all football-related activity, with no review to be considered for five years.

FAW issues lengthy suspension

In a statement, the governing body confirmed the disciplinary outcome and set out the terms of the ban. The decision means Taylor cannot take part in any football-related activity during the suspension period unless the case is revisited after five years.

The incident took place in a league fixture in north Wales, and the punishment reflects the seriousness of the assault described by the FAW.

Appeal deadline set

Taylor has until Friday, 12 June to appeal against the decision. No further details were included in the FAW statement.

The case has drawn attention because of the severity of the sanction, with the governing body taking strong disciplinary action following the elbow strike that left Brookwell knocked out during the match.
