Charles Leclerc has described Ferrari’s brake problem as “borderline dangerous” after crashing out of the Monaco Grand Prix while running in a podium position.
On The Chequered Flag Podcast, BBC F1 correspondent Andrew Benson read out Leclerc’s comments following the incident, which ended the home driver’s race in the barriers late on in the event.
Leclerc’s Monaco Grand Prix frustration
Leclerc was in contention for a strong result in Monaco before the brake failure struck. According to the comments read out by Benson, three out of four brakes failed to work, leaving the Ferrari driver unable to control the car properly as he approached the barriers.
The crash brought a disappointing end to what had been a promising race for Leclerc, who had been running in a podium position before the problem forced him out.
Ferrari brake issue raises safety concerns
Leclerc’s description of the fault as “borderline dangerous” underlines the seriousness of the issue. Brake reliability is critical in Formula 1, especially on a demanding street circuit like Monaco, where precision and control are essential.
The incident has added to Ferrari’s frustration after losing a potential podium finish. The Monaco Grand Prix had offered Leclerc a chance to deliver in front of his home crowd, but the brake failure instead left him with a retirement and a major talking point from the race.
